Description
Mount Ushba is one of the most notable peaks of the Caucasus Mountains and a true symbol of Georgia. It is located in the historic region of Svaneti, just south of the border with Kabardino-Balkaria.
Although it is not among the ten highest peaks in the range, Ushba is often called the “Matterhorn of the Caucasus” due to its striking, spire-shaped double summit. Many alpinists consider it the most challenging climb in the Caucasus.
Ushba has two summits: the northern summit, which reaches 4,690 meters, and the slightly higher southern summit at 4,710 meters.
In Svanetian mythology, Ushba was believed to be the home of the hunting goddess Dali.
